The Neptune Project by Polly Holyoke
Have you ever wished you could live in the ocean? Well in The Neptune Project a group of children did just that--even though they had not planned on it. The world was becoming too evil so a group of scientists genetically altered children so they could survive in the ocean and build a better future under the sea. Nere, the main character, is not happy about this assignment and neither are the other children. Yet somehow they have to learn to work with each other as well as face the dangers of an underwater life all while trying to reach the Neptune colony hundreds of miles away. They have dolphins and their own wits to help them succeed. This is an exciting adventure but I did not wish to be one of the children. Eating raw fish, fighting sharks and dodging Marine Guard boats is not what I want to do. However, if you've ever been in the ocean this book will be fun for you to read.
